Federal Service Academy

Case Study

This client is a four-year Federal service academy in New York. It’s located 50 miles north of New York City. Our task was the turnkey cleanup of one of the halls and submitting the hall to the Academy in the perfectly clean condition, for further repurposing according to the client’s needs.

  • The 81,855 square foot area was cleaned out, broom swept and prepped for reconstruction
  • 44 assets of wood and metalwork machinery were auctioned out and loaded on the client’s vehicles. No reusable equipment was wasted
  • Multiple dumpsters of hazardous and general manufacturing waste were disposed of compliantly

Challenges

The location had been serving as a wood and metal on-site workshop for decades, with a few dozens of pieces of heavy machinery and equipment. During its activity, this building accumulated a lot of general as well as some hazardous waste. This whole area had to be cleaned up and given back to the client in a spotless condition for complete repurposing.

Solution

Mission Reuse disconnected the equipment from electricity, plumbing, and ductwork, terminated all the infrastructure, and cut the machinery off from the anchors that held the assets to the floor. After that, we kitted and packed the reusable machinery with its accessories and spares on custom-built wooden platforms for removal. We then sold the resellable equipment at an auction. The hazmat’s were packaged, transported, and disposed of following all local, state & federal regulations.

Result

Within 2 months Mission Reuse returned the building to the client in broom-swept condition, fully clean and ready for restoration, renovation, and repurposing right on time for the next team to start construction. The environmental impact of disposal was minimized.
