Review and Analysis of Apple IT Asset Disposition Services
This white paper is part of our extensive in-house research into ITAD providers, conducted first in April 2024 and again in August 2026, based on their publicly available information. This paper analyzes Apple's trade-in program to see if it is suitable for use in ITAD compared to an ITAD managed service provider (ITAD MSP). While Apple's offering is primarily a consumer-focused trade-in for credit toward new Apple devices, it lacks essential enterprise-level features like secure data destruction, chain of custody tracking, and audit-ready documentation. In contrast, ITAD MSPs deliver complete solutions with online tracking, professional data sanitization, cash recovery, and support for a wide range of IT assets. The report outlines 16 key ITAD service categories, making it easier for companies to choose the right partner and mitigate compliance, data, and environmental risks.
