Review and Analysis of HP IT Asset Disposal Services

This white paper is based on extensive in-house research we conducted in April 2024 and again in August 2026 on ITAD providers and publicly available information. This paper examines HP and HPE's separate ITAD services, revealing limitations such as narrow asset acceptance, complex multi-contracting, and unclear chain-of-custody procedures. Cashback is not offered through HP ITAD—only credit toward HP purchases, while HPE offers cashback but only accepts servers and enterprise storage arrays. In contrast, a dedicated ITAD managed service provider (ITAD MSP) should handle all assets through a single contract, offer upfront quotes, robust data destruction, and audit trail assistance while prioritizing reuse over recycling and delivering direct cashback to clients for qualified assets.
